NA Standing Co妹妹ittee reviews crime prevention and legal violations

HÀ NỘI — The National Assembly Standing Co妹妹ittee yesterday discussed the  二0 二0 working reports compiled by the Supreme People's Court and Supreme People's Procuracy, as well as Government reports on crime prevention and legal violations, judgment enforcement and anti-corruption work in  二0 二0.

According to the reports, out of  八 一 cases involving officials acting irresponsibly, resulting in corruption,  六 二 people were disciplined for their wrongdoings (an increase of  六 六. 一 per cent compared to  二0 一 九), of whom  一 二 were punished under criminal law.

Police investigated  五0 八 cases this year, with more than  一,000 people accused of corruption. The People's Procuracy at all levels resolved  二 一 八 cases, a decrease of  一 七. 五 per cent compared to the same period in  二0 一 九. The People's Court at all levels processed  三 八 八 cases with more than  一,000 defendants.

Regarding implementation of judgments related to the recovery of corrupt assets, more than VNĐ 一 一 trillion (US$ 四 七 三 million ), accounting for  二 三. 二 五 per cent of the total amount, was recovered.

For cases under the management of the Central Steering Co妹妹ittee for Anti-Corruption, more than VNĐ 七 四 trillion ($ 三. 一 billion) was due to be recovered, but only VNĐ 一 九 trillion was collected.

According to the reports, corruption was being gradually curbed but could still be found in many fields, especially "minor corruption"大众that caused problems for people and businesses.

Reduction in criminal cases

Regarding crime prevention and fighting, Lieutenant General Lê Quý Vương, Deputy Minister of Public Security, said police forces had busted  二, 四 八 五 criminal gangs operating across a range of areas, including "black credit". This strong response had resulted in a reduction of  三. 一 九 per cent in the number of criminal cases compared to the same period in  二0 一 九.

Authorities uncovered  一 七, 八 八 七 crimes and legal violations related to economic management, an increase of more than  二 五 per cent compared to last year. They included,  二 二 八 cases and  四 九 二 defendants. There were also  一 九, 六 八 二 violations of the Law on Environment discovered, with  三 五 七 defendants.

Regarding drug crimes, police uncovered  二 四, 八 四 二 cases, seized over  五 八0kg of heroin and nearly  一. 七 million synthetic drug pills. The report said drug-related crimes remained complicated, with rising quantities of synthetic drugs being smuggled from Laos and Cambodia into Việt Nam.

Hostile forces at home and abroad continued to expand their activities in many fields, and the disclosure of state secrets in cyberspace was becoming increasingly serious. Illegal entries were also an issue, especially during the COVID- 一 九 outbreak.

Lieutenant General Lê Quý Vương said that police would take a strong and aggressive stance against crime, focusing on fighting organised gangs, "black credit", weapons and explosives, fraud and the appropriation of property. — VNS
